Dutch F-16 crashes over the Wadden Sea

July 19, 2006 (by Bjorn Claes) - An F-16 of the RNlAF crashed over the Wadden Sea near the island of Vlieland around 14:50 hours local on Wednesday afternoon. The pilot was able to eject and was subsequently rescued by an AB-412SP helicopter.

The aircraft (#J-363) from Volkel AB based 311 sqn was practicing on the Vliehors training range. The exact cause of the accident is currently unknown but the jet probably had a flame out.

No more information is currently available in which circumstances the aircraft crashed.
