Belgian F-16 looses ALQ-131 system

February 20, 2006 (by Bjorn Claes) - Today, around 13:00 hours, a Belgian F-16BM #FB-24 lost an ALQ-131 (V) Block 2 electronic countermeasure system in the vicinity of Charleroi. Debris hit some parked cars but no-one was injured.

The F-16 was on its way from Kleine-Brogel AB to Beauvechain AB.

An expert of the Belgian Ministry of Defense has arrived on the scene as well as an expert of the SABCA factory to determine how this incident could happen. Luckily the 600 pound container didn't hit anyone.

Pieces of the ALQ crashed into the ground behind a garage and near a swimmingpool, close to Montignies-sur-Sambre and Marcinelle.

This is the first incident of such kind since the AN-ALQ-131 was introduced with the Belgian Air Force in the early nineties.
