Turkish F-16 crashes shortly after take off, pilot safe

An F-16 fighter of the Turkish Air Force crashed in the south eastern province of Diyarbakir shortly before landing, military authorities reported Monday. The pilot of the plane, who was on a training flight, parachuted to safety.
The plane, attached to the second Tactical Air Force, crashed at 14.43h, about four and a half kilometres from the runway, ending up in an uninhabited area near the village of Gonendi in Diyarbakir's Carikli Municipality.
Turkish Air Forces attributed the crash to "technical reasons during landing".
