RoCAF F-16 makes emergency landing at Chiayi AF

October 7, 2004 (by Anonymous) - On 13 September 2004, a RoCAF F-16A block 20 Fighting Falcon with serial number #6651, made an emergency landing at Chiayi AFB, Republic of China (Taiwan) Air Force.

The F-16 was undamaged and its pilot was safe.

The F-16 belonged to the 455th Wing, RoCAF, based at Chia-Yi AFB.

The jet took off at 10:15h from Chia Yi AFB for a training mission. When it returned to base its landing gear warning light was on. The pilot informed the airport where he landed at 11:13h. While he was on the runway, one of the tires blew.

The runway was closed for about 40 minutes, and re-opened at 11:55h.

Taiwan F-16s are divided into two wings, one at Chiayi AFB and one at Hualien AFB. The 4th Wing at Chiayi AFB consists of the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd Tactical Fighter Squadrons under the 4th operational group as well as the 14th Operational Conversion Unit.
