USAF Thunderbird 2004 season starts today

April 13, 2004 (by Eric L. Palmer) - Th U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team marks the start of their new season today, by a run down the Las Vegas strip around 15.00h local time.
The fly-over will include two passes as a salute to Las Vegas for supporting the precision military flying team. The Thunderbirds are based at Nellis, just north of the city.

The team's six F-16 fighter jets will fly past at 450 miles per hour, at just 1,000 feet off the ground.

The Thunderbirds squadron is an Air Combat Command unit composed of eight pilots (including six demonstration pilots), four support officers, three civilians and more than 130 enlisted personnel performing in 25 career fields.

The team has begun a 42-stop tour season that runs through November.
