My Jets & Assignments

A-10 Thunderbolt II
Unit 355 TFS, Myrtle Beach, SC
Period 1980 - 1983
Loved the Hog. Asst. CC on 710. CC on 188. Myrtle Beach was the best kept secret of the Air Force.
A-10 Thunderbolt II
Unit 510th TFS / RAF Bentwaters, England
Period 1983 - 1986
Bentwaters was my best active duty assignment. Member of the 510th AMU an A-10 Buzzard. TDY's included: Ramstein Germany, Numerous to Sembach Germany, Norway, Italy, Turkey, UK. Sad day when Crooked Creek closed.
F-4 Phantom II
Unit 68th TFS and 69 TFS / Moody AFB, Ga
Period 1986 - 1988
Still trying to figure out who I pissed off to go from A-10's to F-4's. Great experience though and I have the utmost respect to anyone who has ever worked F-4's. First incentive flight in F-4 in my aircraft 67-0375 with my pilot Capt. "Zing" Diesing.
80568 [Detailed history of this F-16]
Unit 69th Fighter Squadron "Werewolves" [Unit History]
Period 1988 - 1990
Current: AAFG0118   USAF AMARC F-16A Block 15 ADF [ sto]
69th got our Block 15's from Kunsan.
Unit FTD 322 / Moody AFB
Period 1990 - 1991
Special Duty as FTD instructor at Moody. Went to Selfridge ANG, Mi to convert them from F-4's to F-16's. My aircraft 80-568 transferred to Selfridge while I was there. Acft had long history of intermittent "Y" light the entire time at Moody. Guard boys at Selfridge refused acceptance until they had hard fix and they found FCC ground wire had been painted over in prep for Gunsmoke causing intermittent light...problem solved.
B-1 Lancer
Unit 116th BW / Georgia ANG, Robins AFB, Georgia
Period 1996 - 1996
Went to B-1's in the Georgia Air Guard but missed the F-16. Transferred to Dannelly Field in the Alabama Air Guard.
Unit 160th Fighter Squadron "Snakes" [History]
Period 1997 - 2008
Transferred to Montgomery Air Guard. Operation Northern Watch - 1997. Operation Iraqi Freedom - 2006. Currently MSgt on the flightline. Enjoy working with some of the finest Crew Chiefs in the Air Force. Deploy more in the Guard (part time) than I did active duty. Got my second fighter ride (F-4 & F-16) in 87-379 (Pilot -Maj. "Flash" Gordon and CC - TSgt.Scott Cone) 9.2 G's
Unit 100th Fighter Squadron "Tuskegee Airman" [History]
Period 2008 -
The 187th FW 160th FS was renumbered in 2008 to the 100th FS.

Ron,

I am not sure if you remember me but we were stationed together at Moody. I was also an instructor at FTD 322.

I first got on the A-10 at Cripple Creek back in 1978. I miss the base and the UK big time, I had a wonderful time there and the TDY's kick ass, loved them all - good on you - best of luck too

Ron,

Just wanted to drop you and let you know that I am currently an FTD Instructor here at Moody on the TF-34 (A-10 Engine). Just got the job in March of this year and love every minute of it.

Hey Ron,

Your name sounds familiar and I think I can place your face as well. I was an engine instructor at 322 FTD from 86-91 when Moody converted from F-4's to F-16's. I went to the back shop after the FTD assignment and stayed there till I went to Iceland in 93. I was one of the engine instructors that went to Dannelly Field for their conversion to F-16's. I taught the flight line engine course.
