Started out on T-38 in 1985, then OV-10's, RF-4 between 1988-1989, and did 4 1/2 years working Transient Alert between 1992-1997 at which time I launched, recovered, serviced just about everything in US inventory.
DeploymentsDeployed to Balad AB with 4 FS for almost 6 months. Best experience in my AF career. |

Homestead, AFB, FL one of the best base ever. Too bad Huricane Andrew came and wiped out the base and all it was close for active duty personnel

There are many interesting stories while working this assignment but the 2 that stand out was the time I was the RED HAT on an aircraft lift while doing crash recovery. Two jets had mid-air collision over the runway. One landed safely though damaged. The other wasn't so lucky, pilot ejected and the jet crashed on the runway. Jet was badly damaged but intact. I was selected as team chief of the recovery operations, my team and I removed jet from runway without any major issues in minimal time. My other interesting story was when one on my crew chief was recvovery an F-18. I was ramp rat at the time and noticed both main gear brakes ignite on fire as he was pulling into chocks. My transient team and I got pilot out of aircraft and proceeded to extinguish the fire. It was job well done which saved the aircraft from further damage.
