When I took over the jet was a 'hanger queen'. About half of the black boxes were gone, the engine was gone, the canopy was off because both seats were being used elsewhere, even the radome was gone. I spent about two weeks trying to get all the parts missing ordered. They wanted me to get the jet up and flying within the month so we didn't have to do a 90 day calendar. Three weeks later it rolled out to the trim pad and the next day flew. In November 1981 it and two other B model jets and three A model jets went to Egypt right after the assassination of Anwar Sadat. We got there in time to participate in Bright Star and stayed after the games with the B models to train the Egyptian pilots who would be the first to fly the F-16s we were giving them - they called it Proud Falcon.
