Anecdote: During a 13th FS Red Flag deployment in 2001, F-16 pilot Capt Mark 'Guts' Garnet was presented tail number 92-3886 to have his name placed on the canopy. Prior to going into phase inspection, a group of 13th FS maintainers coined a name for the aircraft based on Capt Garnet's request that the name be related to his wife, April. As a result, "April's Fool" was tagged to tail number 92-3886. Although nose art is "illegal" on F-16s, Capt Garnet's crew chief took the communications door panel off the jet, and had a airbrush artist paint the inside of the panel with a cartoon version of a F-16 and the cursive name "April's Fool".

The F-16 crashed into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of northern Japan. The pilot ejected and was rescued six hours later. AIB investigation shows that an uncommanded closure of the main fuel shutoff valve caused the engine to be starved of fuel.

Crew Chief Profile
13th Fighter Squadron "Panthers" , 2002 - 2002
I was the ADCC on this aircraft for 8 months before it deployed to Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia for OSW. She had a tendency to lay eggs and wasn't worth the trouble most of the time but she held up well during deployments. 886 returned to Misawa after OSW and was assigned to the 14th FS and became a PACAF Demo bird soon after. If I remember right, there is an airbrush painting of "April's Fool" inside the comm door.
