The pilot ejected safely after he jettisoned fuel tanks as part of emergency procedures. The aircraft went down in a forested area in southern Germany near U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria in Grafenwoehr during a training sortie from Spangdahlem AB. The cause was later determined that a structural failure of the bearing cage caused the engine control to malfunction.
