25 Oct 2001 [msh] 84217 USAF 62 FS 'LF' F-16C Block 25C AIB Report
Major Yarema Sos ejected while the landing gear collapsed on touch-down at Luke AFB. The aircraft came down three quarters of the way down the runway. The F-16 was caught in the turbulence of the aircraft before him and hit the ground well over the structural design limit of the aircrafts landing gear system resulting in a collapse.

The aircraft was rebuilt by the 649th Combat Logistics Support Squadron at Hill AFB and is currently undergoing depot maintenance with an estimated return to the unit by Spring 2005. The F-16 was repaired with parts of F-16N #163571.

This jet was the Sq/CC jet. If anyone has ever seen the book by Randy Jolly named "The Real Hero's". This jet is on the title page with LTC Diehl in the seat and "Yours truly" on the ladder. I crewed this jet until we deployed for Desert Storm - it had a big problem and was down for depot a long time - when it finally flew again, Vernon Suzuki was named the DCC. I think it actually got in on the last 7 or 8 DS sorties.
